Dr. Brian Magna, DPT ATC

CEO / Physical Therapist

 

Brian has been working as a physical therapist for over 20 years. He holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the Institute of Health and a physical therapy degree from the University of Connecticut. Brian's other degrees include a masters degree from Western Michigan University in sports medicine as well as a bachelors degree from Eastern Connecticut State University in Biology.

 

Brian's expertise lies in the evaluation and treatment of orthopedic conditions with all athletes with specific training dealing with golfers, dancers, athletes, and runners.

Brian served as a Physical Therapist on the LPGA & PGA Tours from 2000-2004 as well as the U.S. Solheim Cup Therapist in 2002 in Edina, Minnesota and 2003 in Malmo, Sweden. Brian currently serves on the board of directors for the Connecticut Dance Alliance and is a member of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science. He also previously worked as a physical therapist for the Hartford Ballet.

Brian has worked with numerous junior and collegiate players, PGA teaching professionals and professional golfers including: Annika Sorenstam,Tiger Woods, Casey Martin, Meg Mallon, Beth Daniel, Julie Inkster, Christie Kerr, Heather Daly-Donofrio, Laura Diaz and many more.

Dr. Suzanne Osborne, MSPT, DPT

Physical Therapist

 

Suzanne received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions and has been practicing within the greater Hartford area since 2001. In addition to her skilled knowledge of orthopedic and sports physical therapy, Suzanne has extensive experience with vestibular therapy and balance disorders. Her specialties include physical therapy for Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Osbourne's approach to patient care includes a strong emphasis on partnering with her patients to address those limitations that interrupt everyday function.

Dr. Brianne M. Dwyer, PT, DPT

Clinic Coordinator/Dance Medicine Director/Certified Pilates Instructor

 

Brianne M. Dwyer is a Connecticut native who graduated from DeSales University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Prior to receiving her undergraduate degree, Brianne trained with Mystic Ballet, as well as danced with American Ballet Theatre Collegiate Program, Annex Dance Company, and LEVY dance. Upon graduation in 2012, Brianne performed with Full Force Dance Theatre and CONNectic Dance. Brianne has taught dance throughout Connecticut and Southeastern Pennsylvania for over 10 years. Brianne has also been a certified Pilates instructor for since 2012.

From 2012 to 2015, Brianne worked at Magna Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Center as the Director of Dance Medicine & Conditioning. Since then, she went on to obtain her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Sacred Heart University in 2018, in which she had the opportunity to complete clinical affiliations at NovaCare Rehabilitation, Mount Sinai Rehabilitation, and The Johns Hopkins Hospital Performing Arts Physical Therapy Program. Brianne recently returned to Magna PT as the Clinic Coordinator of our Avon location and Dance Medicine Director to continue to grow and expand the amazing physical therapy programs Magna PT has to offer.

Jennifer Stawarz, MSPT

Physical Therapist

 

In 2004, Jennifer received her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Hartford.  She offers quality orthopedic care and her treatments emphasize a hands-on approach combined with medical exercise training. She believes in promoting a healthy lifestyle and loves educating her patients about diet and exercise for the mind and body.  She also helps her patients by promoting self awareness to their rehabilitation experience. 

 

Jennifer has an advanced certification in the Cyriax technique and completed a 10 month manual therapy course emphasizing spine injuries & intervention. Jennifer continues to supplement her education through continuing education courses including fundamentals in therapeutic & kinesiology taping, strain/counter strain techniques, Core Therapy using theraball, bio-mechanical analysis & treatment of foot & ankle dysfunction, Mulligan mobilization with movement & taping. 

 

Jen's areas of interest include treating foot & ankle injuries, post surgical athletes, and providing postnatal core strengthening programs. Jen lives in Burlington with her husband and 2 small children. 

Dr. Sarah Parker, PT, DPT

Physical Therapist/Certified Pilates Instructor

 

Sarah is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with a strong background in dance and Pilates. She received her Bachelor’s degree in 2017 from Springfield College with a concentration in Dance and received her Doctorate from Springfield College two years later. Prior to employment, she completed an internship at Magna Physical Therapy working with a variety of population diagnosis ranging from orthopedics to neurological conditions. She grew up in a small town in Western Massachusetts dancing and teaching at the Huntington Dance Center and spent her summers taking classes at Jacob’s Pillow. She has also danced and performed with the American Dance Institute. In 2018 she became a certified Pilates instructor.

Dr. Ryan Edgar, DPT

Physical Therapist

Ryan graduated Mount Saint Mary College with his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2015, and completed his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Hartford in 2018. He enjoys treating a wide variety of sports related injuries and also discovered particular enjoyment in treating adolescents after completing a clinical rotation with Westview Sports Medicine and having the opportunity to work with athletes from Pomfret School. Ryan grew up in Avon, CT playing baseball and soccer from childhood through to college, which helped to develop a clinical fondness for rehabbing shoulder, knee, and ankle injuries.

Thomas Crowley, PT, CSCS

Physical Therapist

 

Tom is a staff physical therapist who graduated from The University of Connecticut in 1985 with over 33 years of experience. Clinical specialties include Acute Rehab Care, Orthopedics, Sports medicine, Home Care and Gerontology. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. 

Richelle "Ricki" Stevenson, LAT

Licensed Athletic Trainer & Dance Medicine Coordinator

 

Richelle (Ricki) Stevenson is a licensed athletic trainer (LAT), certified Pilates instructor and professional ballet dancer.  She began classical ballet at the age of five. Throughout her training, she attended several ballet intensives across the nation including Milwaukee Ballet Company, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, The Rock, and Ballet Magnificat.

In 2015, she graduated summa cum laude from Grand Canyon University with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training and a minor in dance education. While in college, Ricki competed nationally and earned a graduation with honors through the National Honors Society of Dance Arts (NHSDA). Throughout her academic career, Ricki focused her research of sports medicine within dance. She has several years of experience caring for athletes of all ages, covering emergency situations and developing rehabilitation programs. Ricki spent the 2014/2015 season as a company artist with Terpsicore Dance Company in Phoenix, Arizona. She then moved to Tacoma, Washington to join Paradosi Ballet Company and had the opportunity to minister all along the west coast. In 2017, Ricki joined Ekklesia Contemporary Ballet, a company based out of Killingworth, CT. She and her husband now live in Wethersfield with their Jack Russell Terrier. Ricki was recently promoted to Assistant Director of Ekklesia Contemporary Ballet in addition to performing as a company artist. She looks forward to continuing to bringing healing to dancers and athletes of all ages with the skilled team at Magna Physical Therapy. 

Roxann Licke, LMT

Licenced Massage Therapist

 

Roxann began her massage therapy career in 2004; she is a National Certified Massage  Therapist and a member of the American Massage Therapy Association. She has over 2000 hours of training in massage and bodywork experience and specializes in integrative therapeutic massage. This includes focusing on specific issues while addressing whole body stress relief and the well-being of her clients. Roxann delivers a style of bodywork that combines a number of modalities including Deep Tissue, Swedish massage, Myofascial release, Trigger point, Precision Neuromuscular Therapy and Sports massage therapy. Her focus is to restore optimum function for her clients and to provide movement throughout the body. She has collaborated with chiropractors and has experience with on-site corporate chair massage. Roxann wholeheartedly believes in giving back to her community with organizations as Walk For Life Breast Cancer Awareness, Ride for MS, Wisconsin Triathlon, UCONN Breast Cancer survival, Autism Awareness, and Special Olympics.  “My goal? I am passionate about massage and helping others to achieve their goals as well as improve their overall health through a holistic approach. This allows each client’s specific needs to be tailored to their wellness.”

Katie Bittner

Physical Therapist Aide Cooridinator

 

Katie ​Bittner attended University of Hartford, graduating with a BFA in classical ballet pedagogy in May, 2016. She has taught dance as well as reading and comprehension skills at several programs including CDF Freedom Schools, (CREC) Ana Grace Academy, and Nutmeg Conservatory. In addition to being a part of Magna’s staff, she currently teaches at Ballet Theatre Company and Revolutionary Youth Theatre, both based in West Hartford, works as a freelance contemporary dancer with Hartford and New York based companies, and an avid lover of animals! Katie has been part of the Magna team since 2016 and enjoys applying her knowledge of kinesiology and classical ballet to the practice of rehabilitating dancers and athletes.

Lea-Janell Mitchell

Physical Therapist Aide

 

Lea -Janell Mitchell is originally from East Lansing, Michigan. She grew up dancing with Capitol Ballet Theatre of Michigan and Happendance. After graduating from high school in 2011, she moved to Connecticut where she attended The Hartt School for Performing Arts on scholarship. Lea graduated in May of 2015 with a BFA in Dance Performance and Ballet Pedagogy. After graduation, Lea danced as a guest artist with several local companies. She has danced professionally with Fort Wayne Ballet, Vivid Ballet/Ballet Hartford and more recently with Ballet Theater Company in West Hartford. Lea joined the Magna team in October of 2017. She is a certified Personal Trainer and is studying for a continued education in high performing athletics. Magna Physical Therapy and Dance Medicine is the perfect place to build her skill sets.

Amanda Holtzman

Physical Therapist Aide

 

Amanda grew up in Avon, CT and attended Siena College where she majored in psychology with a minor in biology.  Amanda is confident her work experience as a physical therapist aide at Magna Physical Therapy, will help prepare her to work towards her desire to get a doctorate in physical therapy.  She was an all-conference Division I NCAA collegiate soccer player at Siena College and aims to continue her passion for athletics, fitness, and health as part of the patient care team at Magna Physical Therapy.

Calvin Bittner

Physical Therapist Aide

 

Calvin Bittner is a performer and choreographer living in Hartford, CT. He graduated from The Hartt School in 2017 with a degree in Dance Performance. Since then he spent a year as a company artist with Ballet Hartford (formerly Vivid Ballet), and is now freelancing as a choreographer, teacher, and performer. His work has been presented at The American College Dance Association, University of Saint Joseph, The Alvin Ailey School, and Jacob’s Pillow.

Hayley Mansfield

Physical Therapist Aide

 

Hayley Mansfield is a physical therapist aid at Magna. She is an undergraduate student at Springfield college majoring in general studies following a designated physical therapist track. After she completes her undergraduate degree she wishes to go on to obtain her doctorate in physical therapy. Hayley has danced with New England Dance Centers and has been a competitive dancer for many years, she enjoys dancing and gymnastics and hopes to continue on throughout her life.

Cheryl Cleaves

Customer Service Coordinator & Bookkeeper

 

Cheryl is the Customer Service Coordinator and bookkeeper at Magna Physical Therapy.
She came to us with an extensive background in sales and marketing leading 3M/Cuno in their consumer customer service department for 9 years. She also worked in international sales & marketing for SINCO, Inc. and came to us after working for the State of Connecticut Military Department. Outside of Magna PT, Cheryl dedicates a great deal of her time to her non-profit she founded in 2012, SpiritHorse Therapeutic Riding Center of Canton, where her facility provides equine therapy to individuals with disabilities. 
Cheryl and her husband reside in Canton with their 3 sons.

Anna LaFreniere

Patient Service Representative

 

Anna is an undergraduate student at The University of Connecticut where she is majoring in exercise science with a minor in sports nutrition. She aspires to get her doctorate in physical therapy after she completes her undergraduate degree. In her free time, Anna participates in UConn’s Club Track and Field Team and spends time with her family and friends. Anna has been a at Magna PT for two years, working both as a physical therapist aide and currently as a patient service coordinator.

Catherine DeMur

Patient Service Representative

Catherine works at Magna Physical Therapy as a patient service representative. She graduated from Capital Community College nursing degree in 2012 and has experience in both cardiac and vascular medicine. She is licensed as a Registered Nurse and has worked for Hartford Hospital and Baystate Medical Center. She is a compassionate and caring individual who loves helping and working with people. She currently lives in Suffield, CT and enjoys the outdoors, whether that be finding a new trail to hike, kayaking in the river behind her house, or exploring the road in her Jeep. She looks forward to getting to know you and will always be greeting you with a warm smile.
